The PlayStation Plus lineup for July is now live, and with comes three games free for PS5 and PS4.
Headlining this month's lineup is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the 2023 game that introduced a new chapter in the rebooted Modern Warfare series. PS Plus subscribers can enjoy the campaign, which continues from the story of Modern Warfare 2 and sees Captain Price and Task Force 141 face off against ultranationalist war criminal Vladimir Makarov as he extends his grasp across the world.
The campaign also introduces an "Open Combat Mission" structure, giving players multiple ways to tackle objectives rather than the series' usual linear corridors. This means you can go in guns blazing, go the stealth way and sneak through alternate routes, or use vehicles and gadgets to outmaneuver enemies.
In Multiplayer, all 16 maps that launched with Modern Warfare 2 back in 2009 are back with new improved graphics and new modes. There's also the return of classic mechanics like slide canceling and the traditional minigame. Multiplayer rounds things out with a robust Gunsmith system, letting players fine-tune weapons down to individual attachments, while returning killstreaks and perks add another layer of strategy.
And, of course, there's the signature Zombies mode, but with a twist. Instead of traditional round-based Zombies, Modern Warfare 3 featured the largest open-world PvE mode inspired by DMZ. The open-world Zombies mode tasks squads with completing contracts, extracting loot, and surviving escalating threats across a sprawling map, rewarding careful planning as much as firepower.
If Call of Duty isn't your jam, there are two other games to enjoy.
For the King II is a fantasy RPG that combines roguelite progression with tabletop-inspired strategy. Set in the kingdom of Fahrul, you'll battle the tyrannical Queen Rosomon in solo play or with up to three friends in online co-op as you fight to free the realm from her oppressive rule.
And last, but certainly not least, is CrossCode, a retro-inspired 2D action RPG that combines gorgeous 16-bit visuals with fluid combat, clever puzzle-filled dungeons, and RPG progression. Set within a sci-fi world, the game blends fast-paced action with equipment upgrades and customizable skills, rewarding players who learn to exploit enemy weaknesses.
All three of these games can be played on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. They are available to add to your library right now, and will remain available to claim for PS Plus members until Monday, August 3.
