The upcoming, live-action
Mortal Kombat movie will both be R-rated and include fatalities. Those aspects were revealed last month by, the film's screenwriter, Greg Russo. He recently did another interview with
Comicbook.com in which he spoke more about the fatalities that will be included in the film.
According to Russo, the live-action
Mortal Kombat movie will include iconic and memorable fatalities from the games themselves. Based on how he describes them, it sounds as if they're going to be one-for-one recreations.
"Game accurate? Yes, we are. I can say for sure that the fatalities that we're going to put into the film are from the game," the screenwriter stated before elaborating further.
We're going to come up with some new things that we haven't seen before, but at the same time we want to ... if we're going to do it and use that device, we want to make sure that it's not just in there just to be in there and have that point to the story. So everything will always have that point to what's happening in the story, it will feel awesome and badass, and it's going to play a role, you know, it's not just going to be there just to be showy.
Given how unapologetically brutal most of the fatalities from the many Mortal Kombat games are; confirmation that they will be "game accurate" gives us an idea of exactly how adult and gory the film will be — hence it warranting an R rating.
As for the new things that fans haven't seen before, which Russo teases, your guess is as good as mine.
The live-action Mortal Kombat movie will arrive in theaters on the March 5th, 2021.
