Shaq is back in
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, which is a sequel to a game that not that many people will remember. The original
Shaq Fu game came out in 1995 for the Sega Mega Drive(Genesis) and the Super Nintendo to some very mixed/to negative reviews. It was a 1v1 fighting game featuring Shaquille O'Neal as the main star trying to fight his way out of an alternate dimension.
Those were interesting times when NBA stars were beginning to become household names outside of the US and the best way to market these new-found celebrity status quo was to either make movies featuring the Looney Tunes, like Michael Jordan did with
Space Jam, or 2D fighting games like Shaquille O'Neal did with
Shaq Fu...and some very questionable movies, as well. Remember when Shaq played DC Comics character John Henry Irons in
Steel? Exactly! Let's just focus on the games, instead.
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn was initially announced back in 2015 and it was the result of a crowdfunding campaign by international crowdfunding website named Indiegogo. The new game is not a 1v1 fighting game like its predecessor but is more akin to the 2D beat 'em ups of yesteryear. And to be quite honest, the game actually looks like a fun time.
