Many fans of the
Borderlands and
Brothers in Arms series were hoping to hear some official announcements regarding the future of these popular franchises during the upcoming E3 starting on Tuesday. Despite being leaked by the irreplaceable Walmart Canada, a representative from Gearbox Software has announced there will be no
Borderlands 3 presence at the E3 whatsoever.
Brothers in Arms 4 seemed like a safe bet, considering that CEO Randy Pitchford recently said that "
some awesome people" are involved in the production. Well, it looks like Gearbox has decided to take a different route and is showing a brand new IP instead. According to VG247, "
Gearbox is showing it’s 1v1 multiplayer shooter and card hybrid" behind the closed doors and it has been in a closed technical test last August.
“
Project 1v1 is the code name for Gearbox’s top-secret, in-development, competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game,” Gearbox said of its mysterious PC project. Sadly, the footage is shown exclusively to the press and won't be presented outside of the closed doors presentation at E3, although you can expect some hands-on written impressions.
Here’s what appears to be the first low-res image of the mysterious game:
