DOOM Eternal was announed in June of 2018, and it was revealed to be releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and even Nintendo Switch in November of 2019. Bethesda and id Software eventually pushed back the launch date, and the game was finally released in March of this year.
Unfortunately, neither Bethesda nor id Software have shared any news in regards to the Nintendo Switch version of DOOM Eternal; leading fans to believe that this version was simply cancelled. This is particularlh aggravating, considering that the game keeps getting updates on the regular, and not sharing news about the portable version was quite foreshadowing.
To be fair, the Nintendo Switch version of DOOM Eternal is being handled by Panic Button, which is the same developer that successfully ported DOOM(2016), Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Warframe, so we all knew that the port was in capable hands.
Bethesda has recently addressed fan concerns, revealing that they have not made any announcements on DOOM Eternal being cancelled for the Nintendo Switch, but this didn't quite convince players, as the reply could also suggest that the game could be cancelled; they just haven't made the announcement official.
In a statement issued to IGN, Bethesda defiitely confirmed that DOOM Eternal for the Nintendo Switch hasn't been cancelled, but they have revealed that the game will no longer be getting a physical release, and that those who pre-ordered a physical copy will be refunded.
"While Doom Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled pre-orders. Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information," reads Bethesda's statement.
