Earlier this month, Bethesda and id Software announced that a new update for DOOM Eternal would be adding a respectable amount of content to the game, including something called "Empowered Demons" — which, as the name appropropriately suggests, are demons that gain experience and become empowered.
These empowered demons were initially described as regular demons who successfully managed to kill a DOOM Eternal player — in-game, of course — and are transported to another players' campaign, but with the experience that they've gained; making them, well, empowered demons.
Empowered demons present a biggewr threat because they've been buffed, and are made way more difficult to kill than regular demons. This is actually quite an interesting concept that does make the game more difficult, and even adds some replay value.
Defeating these empowered demons grants players some bonus XP for in-game events, as well as a tonne of ammo and health to keep on slaying any lesser demons they may encounter in DOOM Eternal's main campaign.
Today the official DOOM Twitter account has shared a dev diary that sees DOOM Eternal's Game Director and Executive Producer — Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton, respectively — telling us everything we need to know about these mpowered demons.
