Mr. Lucas, aka Golden Modz, is the latest personality to be the target of a lawsuit from Epic Games. He has a sizable YouTube following of 1.7 million subscribers and allegedly violated the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, breached contract and engaged in "tortious interference" when he posted videos of his cheating. He also sold cheat tools on his website. Conter, his frequent collaborator, often participated in those videos.
Epic has asked YouTube to remove several of the videos. Mr. Lucas, aka Excentric, claims that he didn't realize his behavior was illegal and points out that other YouTubers were doing the same thing.
Should Epic Games prevail, the studio's attorneys are seeking the cheaters' profits, damages and court costs. The substantial costs to the defendants is sure to deter other cheaters from attempting to make money in this way.
We'll keep you abreast of further developments in this lawsuit in the days ahead. Do you support Epic Games in its effort to rid
Fortnite of cheaters? Let us know in the comments.
