As the popularity of Fortnite has grown over the years, so too has the range of player skill. In an attempt to create fairer matches and a more enjoyable experience overall, Epic Games will be tweaking the matchmaking logic to Fortnite Battle Royale's core modes.
The changes will roll out with the v10.40 update and should result in matchmaking with players of similar skill. "We will slowly roll this out to all regions across Battle Royale core modes as we test and monitor how it performs," Epic said in a blog post. "We’re excited to get this out for everyone to play with and will continue to update the system."
Although it's unclear exactly how Epic will determine players' skill level remains to be seen, but the developer said you should notice the skill of your opponents increasing as you get better.
In addition to skill-based matchmaking, Epic has a more divisive plan for next season: the addition of Bots. Arriving with Season 11, Bots are designed to behave similarly to normal players, with a goal to "help provide a better path for players to grow in skill." Similar to the skill-based matchmaking, as you improve, you'll be playing with fewer Bots in your matches.
