Rage 2 was officially announced two hours ago after the series of presumably controlled by Bethesda leaks. Some fans may be disappointed with the direction of the sequel, as the grim, grey, and post-apocalyptic climate will be replaced with more colorful and "happy" art style, similar to the transition from
Watch_Dogs to
Watch_Dogs 2, so it's not really surprising that some fans didn't like this decision.
But there's other group of idSoftware's games that should be pretty pleased, as Bethesda's official website has revealed that
Rage 2 is "
developed in association with Avalanche Studios," the creators of the
Just Cause and
The Hunter series, and also 2015's
Mad Max. Why is it good news? Well, Avalanche has some experience in "
exploding everything" as that's the core gameplay mechanism of
Just Cause.
Also, the fact idSoftware is not officially involved in the development on
Rage 2 means that the studio has time to create their own
Doom 2, a highly-anticipated sequel of the best shooter of 2016. Fans of Rico Rodriguez's high-octane adventures shouldn't be worried about a continuation of
Just Cause 3, as the fourth installment has also been leaked by Walmart Canada and Avalanche has two studios, one in New York (since November 2011), that worked on
Just Cause 3 and a subsidiary studio in Stockholm.
While one division is currently working on
Rage 2 for Bethesda, noting stops the other from developing
Just Cause 4 for Square Enix, so both parties should be pretty pleased. Be sure to check out the difference between the aesthetics and tones of
Rage 2 and
Mad Max down below:
UPDATE: Avalanche Studios just confirmed that they are indeed teaming up with idSoftware on
Rage 2:
Dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. Rage 2 brings together a true open world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything.
