id Software's Tim Willits Hopes To Make RAGE 3 "As Soon As Possible;" Praises Avalanche Studios
Although Avalanche Studios's RAGE 2 has just launched, id Software Studio Director Tim Willits would like to make a proper third entry in the gaudy first-person shooting series "as soon as possible..."
RAGE 2 may not be the best-reviewed video game of the year (currently sitting at a 73% score on Metacritic), but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a pretty fascinating project worth a closer look – especially if you're a fan of DOOM-like shooters married with the craziness of the Just Cause series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, id Software Studio Director Tim Willits explained why the original's makers have decided to team up with Avalanche Studios on RAGE 2. "We liked their Just Cause games and when they became available, they were looking for projects to work on," Willits said. "They could have done anything, but they were big fans of the franchise and id and Bethesda. I make a joke that we were at a bar and one person looked at another person and fell in love. It’s been a ton of fun working with Avalanche. They share a lot of the same philosophy on game design."
While it took Bethesda nearly 9 years to release a new RAGE game, Willits is hoping that they won't have to wait another decade to start developing a third entry – in fact, he believes that RAGE will become a full-blown series one day. "We’ve always loved this franchise because it’s such a fun setting. We can do what we want. We were once talking about riding on giant cockroaches," Willits added. "What other game can you have a conversation where that’s a legitimate conversation you can have?! It’s a crazy, fun, exciting franchise and I hope we can make a third one as soon as possible."
Fortunately, the recent launch of RAGE 2 was just a small beginning of your latest adventure in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, as Avalanche and id Software are working hard on the brand-new game's post launch support that will introduce players to fresh events, community challenges, new vehicles, never-before-seen enemies, cheat codes, and two huge (paid) expansions in the coming months.
In the year 2185, humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule who remains with an iron fist. You are Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland. Robbed of your home and left for dead, you’ll tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling bloodthirsty gangs to find the tools and tech needed to take the fight to The Authority and crush their oppressive rule once and for all!
RAGE 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One NOW!
