In a rapidly evolving shift across the Roblox developer landscape, a 19 year old game creator has reportedly sold his hit title Blue Lock: Rivals for more than $3 million just months after launching it. The teen, who requested anonymity, built the anime-inspired soccer game in three months with the help of co-developers, and it quickly exploded to over 1 million concurrent players on the platform. The title was purchased in March by Do Big Studios, one of the new power players in Roblox acquisitions.
The sale underscores a major trend, Roblox has become a legitimate goldmine for young developers, with seven of the top 15 highest-earning Roblox games as of June 2025 having changed ownership from their original creators.
Originally launched two decades ago as a hobbyist platform for young game creators, Roblox has evolved into a billion-dollar economy. With more than 100 million daily active users and a growing developer base, the marketplace is heating up and buyers are willing to pay seven to eight figures for breakout hits.
Blue Lock: Rivals reportedly generated over $5 million per month in revenue for Roblox prior to its sale. The game’s viral success, fueled by anime fandom and competitive gameplay, placed it among the platform’s most-played titles. With Roblox’s December policy update allowing easy game ownership transfers, a new wave of acquisitions has begun to reshape the developer ecosystem.
Do Big Studios, the company behind the Blue Lock purchase, also acquired a stake in Grow a Garden, now the most-played Roblox game ever with 21 million simultaneous players surpassing even Fortnite in numbers. Another anonymous teen developer reportedly sold that title to Do Big for an undisclosed sum. The studio also acquired Brookhaven RP, formerly Roblox’s most popular game, in a massive deal facilitated by Voldex Entertainment and venture backers Raine Group and Shamrock Capital.
According to Voldex CEO Alex Singer, who is just 24 himself, some deals have exceeded the $100 million Embracer reportedly paid for Welcome to Bloxburg in 2022 though official figures remain unconfirmed.
A Surge of Economic Activity Behind the Scenes
Roblox estimates that its top 10 developers earned an average of $36 million over the past year. Legal experts say most deals are happening through Discord, with independent developers trading ownership stakes or full rights for major payouts. Lawyers like Connor Richards and Adam Starr report a spike in activity, noting that many creators are minors who prefer to stay anonymous while earning hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.
"It’s incredibly capitalist," said Singer of Voldex. "Roblox wants creators to be economically successful."
The Risks and the Rush
But the booming market comes with risks. Roblox games often have short shelf lives, rising and falling with trends. Popular games can be cloned or overshadowed quickly, which is why developers sometimes sell at valuations equal to just one or two months’ revenue.
Still, the upside is massive. With Roblox on track to pay creators over $1 billion in 2025 and more acquisitions already in the pipeline, the ecosystem now resembles a mini Silicon Valley built by teens, traded over Discord, and fueled by Gen Z demand.
For the creators behind Blue Lock: Rivals and other smash hits on Roblox, it’s a digital gold rush. For Roblox itself, it’s a sign that the next billion-dollar developer might be a teenager building games from their bedroom.
