English actor Ben Wishaw, known for supporting roles in Layer Cake, Skyfall, Netflix's Black Doves, and as the voice of Paddington the Bear, has reportedly joined director Alex Garland's live-action Elden Ring movie.

Wishawy will appear alongside Kit Connor, who leads the video game adaptation.

According to The Insneider, the Elden Ring movie is going to be one of A24's most expensive films to date.  A24 has been quietly transforming from a boutique indie label into a serious mid-tier player in the film industry.

The studio, once known for low-budget hits, is now backing projects with significantly larger budgets. For example, 2024’s Civil War had a $50 million production budget, while the upcoming sports-themed comedy-drama Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, is reportedly being made for $70 million.

That’s a major leap from earlier films like Everything Everywhere All at Once ($14 million) and Uncut Gems ($19 million), which helped define the studio’s reputation for inventive storytelling on a modest budget.

Developed by FromSoftware under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki, and enriched with lore contributions from A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin, the game weaves a haunting, mythic narrative set in the Lands Between. This once-prosperous realm was blessed by the Elden Ring and the Erdtree, both instruments of the Greater Will’s divine order.

But after a mysterious event known as The Shattering, the Ring was broken, plunging the world into chaos. Demigods, children of Queen Marika, clash over the scattered Great Runes, while exiled Tarnished are called back to restore order and claim the mantle of Elden Lord.

Like Connor, there's no report on who Whishaw is playing in the film.

What truly elevates Elden Ring beyond its "Souls-like" predecessors is its breathtaking open-world structure. Unlike the more linear pathways of earlier FromSoftware titles, the Lands Between offers boundless exploration from the outset. Players can wander in any direction, discover secrets at their own pace, and forge their path through a world as mysterious as it is dangerous.

With its intricate mythology, iconic landscapes, and deeply personal journey of power, loss, and destiny, Elden Ring is more than just a game, it’s a sprawling epic begging for adaptation on the big screen.

Stay tuned for future updates on the Elder Ring movie, as it looks as if A24 and FromSoftware are planning to ramp up production rather quickly.
