Arc System Works has rolled out a new update for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on PlayStation 5 and PC. The August 21 patch continues the studio’s post-launch efforts to stabilize the game, with further PC performance improvements, several quality-of-life fixes for PS5, and a range of gameplay and system corrections.
The fighting game launched earlier in August to strong interest thanks to its team-based Marvel roster and Arc System Works’ reputation in the genre. PC players, however, encountered noticeable performance problems at launch, including frame rate drops, CPU spikes, and sudden slowdowns. An earlier patch on August 10 targeted many of those issues. This latest update builds on that work by addressing remaining cases of heavy processing loads during matches.
On PlayStation 5, the patch fixes two frustrating problems. Online battle settings, lobby avatar customization, and team-building options no longer reset when the game is restarted. A separate issue that could cause players to automatically forfeit a match if they did not press the Participate button quickly enough has also been corrected, even when they were still within the allowed time window.
Across both platforms, badge progress on the post-match results screen now saves correctly. A number of gameplay bugs have been resolved as well. These include unintended follow-up attacks after Champion’s Cosmic Smash, Crossover failing to activate when a button was held while guarding, assist cooldowns not completing properly after a character switch, camera problems with certain Carnage and Tōkon Finish situations, and an issue that could leave an opponent stuck in a hit state during Spider-Man’s Web Slam. Dash and backdash inputs have also been tightened so they only register after returning to neutral.
Character lessons received targeted adjustments. Green Goblin’s Level Up Missions 1 and 5 now correctly count the Skyscraper mid-combo objective while the character is on the glider. Deadpool’s Level Up Mission 5 for Burning Haymaker was fixed so that landing a Foot Dive after a grounded Death From Above no longer clears the challenge incorrectly, while successfully landing the move while holding an Incendiary Grenade now counts as intended.
Additional fixes cover Episode Mode boss behavior after timeouts, occasional freezes in the Arcadia Rumble multiplayer menu, lingering sound effects after leaving Open Lobby, incorrect network compatibility icons, matchmaking improvements for Ranked and Casual, replay saving and playback problems, ranking screen scrolling and phase display errors, and trophy tracking for the "I Can Do This All Day" achievement.
One side effect of the replay fixes is that older replay data will no longer be viewable after the update. PC players are also reminded to complete the shader warm-up process for the best performance, and the patch size on that platform is larger than usual due to the optimizations.
The update arrives while the community continues to discuss the game’s longer-term plans. Phoenix Cyclops has already been confirmed as the first DLC character. Dataminers have previously uncovered files suggesting additional fighters and even a battle pass system, though Arc System Works has not commented on those findings and has a history of including unused content in its titles.
For now, the focus remains on stability. The combination of the earlier performance patch and this broader set of fixes should make the current version of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls more consistent across both platforms. Players can expect Arc System Works to continue iterating as it gathers more data from the live player base.
