Rockstar Won't Delay GTA 6 Reveals, But The Staff Are "Frustrated And Exhausted" By Ongoing Leaks

Rockstar Games has still not identified the source of the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay leaks, according to a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. Internally, the situation has left many on the development team feeling frustrated and exhausted as new clips continue to surface.

Management has responded by putting the effort to locate the leaker on an "all hands on deck" footing. The studio has also publicly denounced the actions of the group or individual operating under the CyberLeek name. Despite the intensity of the internal response, Rockstar does not plan to delay or alter its scheduled Netflix Extended Look, which remains set for later this month.

The leaks began earlier this week with short videos showing Jason Duval in various activities across Leonida. Subsequent releases have included driving sequences, combat, aerial views, and what appears to be footage captured from a playable development build. One clip even ends with the player shooting the word "LEEK" into a wall. A separate set of map data files, described as an Xbox Graphics Capture containing models, textures, and telemetry, has also circulated and is being treated as distinct from the CyberLeek videos.

This is not the first time Rockstar has dealt with major GTA 6 material escaping into the open. In 2022, a large batch of early gameplay videos was leaked, prompting significant internal security changes. Those measures included stricter policies around hybrid and remote work that forced more employees onsite during critical development periods. The recurrence of substantial leaks despite those steps has added to the sense of frustration inside the studio, according to the Bloomberg reporting.

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has taken the public legal steps. On August 20 it filed DMCA subpoenas in the Southern District of New York seeking records from Microsoft and Discord. The requests target accounts and servers linked to the CyberLeek persona and related handles, asking for identifying information, IP addresses, device data, and associated content. Both companies have until early September to respond.

The financial impact has also been noted. Reports earlier in the week linked the leak coverage to a multi-billion-dollar drop in Take-Two’s market value, though the long-term effect on the game’s commercial prospects remains unclear. Pre-order activity and overall anticipation for the November 19 launch have not shown obvious signs of collapse.

CyberLeek has framed the releases as a protest against digital distribution practices and certain monetization choices. The videos themselves frequently carry cryptocurrency promotion, which has led many observers to question how pure the stated motivations actually are. New clips have continued to appear even after the subpoenas became public, including a hypercar sequence that ended a brief 24-hour quiet period.

For the people working on the game, the combination of repeated security breaches, public scrutiny, and the pressure of an imminent major showcase creates a difficult environment. The 2022 incident already reshaped daily work practices at the studio. Seeing substantial footage escape again, years later and closer to release, has clearly taken a toll on morale.

Rockstar itself has remained largely silent on its official channels since the leaks began. The company has not issued a detailed public statement addressing the content of the videos or the identity of the source. Its response so far has been expressed through the legal actions of its parent company and the internal messaging described in the Bloomberg report.

The Netflix Extended Look is still expected to proceed as planned. Whether that official presentation can cut through the noise of the unofficial footage will be one of the more closely watched moments in the final months before launch. In the meantime, the search for the source continues, and the development team is left managing both the work of finishing the game and the distraction of watching pieces of it appear online without their control.

What are your thoughts on the whole situation? What do you think the end result will be? Let us know if you are still going to play Grand Theft Auto 6 regardless the outcome!
