Activision Reveals Why CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2's Multiplayer Didn't Get The Remaster Treatment

Activision has provided an explanation for why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered doesn't include multiplayer nor Spec Ops. Hit the jump...

Just the other day, Activision officially revealed and released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. It's a remake of the iconic singleplayer story mode that originally featured in 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Back in 2016, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare received similar remaster treatment. However, in that case it wasn't only the game's campaign.

So, why did Activision opt to not remaster the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (not to mention Spec Ops)? Well, they recently revealed their reasoning in a blog post — which you can check out for yourself by clicking here. You see, at the moment the Call of Duty playerbase is strung between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Mobile.

Activision says they want to keep building a "unified online multiplayer playground" with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Hence, they're more inclined to remaster classic maps for the latest modern instalment rather than split the playerbase even more.

It's certainly a controversial decision as, while many are more than fond of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign mode, the multiplayer portion of the game is what made it many's all-time favourite instalment. Those fans will have to simply hold out hope that a remaster of the multiplayer will eventually see the light of day.
