Eidos Montreal Is Still Thinking About The Future Of DEUS EX As The Series Is Definitely "Not Dead"

Dues Ex: Mankind Divided was released two years ago as the game's developer is currently working hard on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but it sounds like the future of the Dues Ex series looks bright...

Eidos Montreal did a great job revitalizing Deus Ex, as the series' prequels, Human Revolution and Mankind Divided were both critically acclaimed and pretty popular games. But there's always one thing Square Enix's products rarely manage to accomplish - match the publisher's sales expectation. Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XIV, Just Cause 3 all failed to please the Japanese corporation and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has sadly followed their footsteps.

Square Enix CEO, Yosuke Metsuda said in November that "the reason there isn't a Deus Ex right now is just a product of our development line-up because there are other titles we are working on." It was revealed last month that Eidos Montreal is currently developing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, continuing Crystal Dynamics' works, but the fans of Adam Jansen should not give up just yet.

"Deus Ex is here. We did not forget Deus Ex, we built the studio with this franchise. We gave out blood, sweat, everything to reboot this franchise and be true to it, so it’s not dead. It’s not dead," said Eidos Montreal's head David Anfossi in an interview with EPNdotv. "It’s here, we just need to think about the future of it and make it correctly and respectfully" Anfossi concluded.

It sounds like there's a chance that Eidos will return to the Deus Ex series after the release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but it might be impossible, considering that Tomb Raider's original dev, Crystal Dynamics is busy with that mysterious Avengers project that's being made for Marvel Entertainment. As it seems, the Deus Ex franchise won’t have the same fate as the Hitman IP.
