EA Motive's STAR WARS "Project Maverick" Video Game Will Reportedly Be Revealed On June 9th

A reputable source claims the Star Wars video game that EA Motive has been working on, codenamed "Project Maverick," is finally going to be officially revealed on June 9th.

It seems we're on the verge of an all-new Star Wars video game, or rather the announcement of one. According to a new report by Bespin Bulletin, Electronic Arts and EA Motive will officially unveil the Star Wars game that they have been working on — that up to now has been affectionately referred to as "Project Maverick" — on Tuesday, June 9th.

This source has proven itself reliable in the past. For instance, just a couple of months back, Bespin Bulletin reported that a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was in the works — and that Star Wars Battlefront 3 isn't. The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was confirmed by Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson not long after.

It's said that Project Maverick was originally going to be revealed on June 2nd. However, this likely changed on account of the #BlackLivesMatter protests. Bespin Bulletin reports that EA Motive's Star Wars game is aiming for a release in 2021. Electronic Arts confirmed a new Star Wars game is in the works for their 2022 fiscal year back in October — so that lines up.

What's peculiar about the June 9th reveal date is that it's ahead of when EA Play Live was originally scheduled to take place (June 11th). The live event was recently postponed to June 18th on account of the aforementioned protests. Nonetheless, you would think Electronic Arts would want to reveal such a major title during their big event.

Perhaps the Star Wars game will be revealed on June 9th, with a brief teaser or full-blown trailer, only to be further delved into during EA Play Live on June 18th. Perhaps there's some miscommunication, and EA Motive's Star Wars game will be revealed during EA Play Live after all. At the moment, we can only speculate and keep our fingers crossed that this is legitimate.

Finally, Bespin Bulletin offhandedly mentions that they've heard Project Maverick could be a "combat flight simulator" of some kind. With that in mind, it could be something along the lines of the classic Star Wars: TIE Fighter and Star Wars: X-Wing video games from the 1990s. That would certainly line up with the name of the project being "Maverick," as Top Gun fans will recognize.
