Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track to release this Fall, Rockstar parent company Take-Two confirmed.
In reporting the company's Q3 2025 financials, Rockstar CEO Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed that GTA 6 is still slated to release in Fall 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Zelnick spoke with IGN prior to the earnings call, noting that the company "feel really good about it [Fall 2025]" although he noted that "there's always the risk of slippage."
"Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things," Zelnick told IGN when asked about his confidence regarding GTA 6's current Fall 2025 release window. "So we feel really good about it."
Unfortunately, he offered little else in terms of detail when asked about the game's development.
"Look, I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally," he said. "We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited."
Grand Theft Auto 6, the next installment in Rockstar's blockbuster action-adventure franchise franchise, was officially unveiled to the public in December 2023. The game was revealed alongside a teaser trailer that confirmed the game's setting and introduced us to the main protagonists.
GTA 6 is set in sunny Leonida, a fictional state based on Florida that is home to Vice City, a fictionalized version of Miami. Vice City, of course, was previously featured in 1997's Grand Theft Auto and was the main setting for 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Few other actual details were provided, although the trailer did seem to confirm the playable criminal duo of Lucia, the series' first main female protagonist since 2000, and her currently unnamed male partner.
Rockstar hasn't shared much else since this first trailer and the lack of updates on the game has led some to worry that the game could get pushed back. Zelnick's statement should hopefully calm some of the concerns.
Grand Theft Auto 6 figures to be the biggest game of this year, with one analyst predicting it will sell 40 million copies in its first year alone. Research and consulting firm DFC Intelligence recently launched a report estimating that GTA 6 would generate $3.2 billion between physical and digital sales, along with online microtransactions during its first year of release.
Given how successful GTA 5 has been, and how long fans have waited for a new installment in the franchise, it's reasonable to expect Grand Theft Auto 6 to shatter the sales records set by its predecessor. GTA 5 broke multiple video game sales records, including the highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours and the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion. It also earned $800 million on its first day before eclipsing the $1 billion mark in just three days.
