When the next entry in the large-scale multiplayer FPS series
PlanetSide was revealed two months ago, it was supposed to be a PC exclusive, featuring Daybreak Game Company's own spin on the battle royale genre, with a unique mode called
Massive Clash which puts two teams of up to 250 players each (with up to 500 players fighting for survival at the same time) in the last-person-standing style mode.
That plan has changed, as Daybreak has announced that
PlanetSide Arena would be also coming to PS4. "
After much consideration, we’ve decided to postpone the current PC-only release date and launch simultaneously across PC and PS4 this summer. We’ve always envisioned PlanetSide Arena as a way for players to experience the epic gameplay of the PlanetSide universe, through fast-paced, combined arms combat and massive-scale multiplayer modes," the studio said in a press release.
While Daybreak is currently focusing on polishing the game's battle royale-esque mode
, PlanetSide Arena will also feature
Capture The Flag, Team Deathmatch, Search And Destroy, and
Conquest modes, but they won't be available at launch. Although the upcoming game will support only one map, it will be a rather big one, with up to 1,000 armed players running around trying to kill each other per match.
Plunge into PlanetSide Arena and battle online in this massive multiplayer sci-fi arena shooter. Choose your class, fuel your jetpack, and drop into the fray on the war-torn landscape of Auraxis. If you want to come out on top, you'll have to go all in to rule the Arena.
PlanetSide Arena is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC this summer.
