Entering a world where games about raising monsters were all the rage, KOEI Tecmo launched Monster Rancher. The game initially released on the original Playstation and allowed players to create a farm where you could obtain, raise and eventually fight with them.
With similar elements to both Pokemon and Digimon, what set this franchise apart from the others was the attention that was put on the farming aspect. That mechanic allowed a sequel to be released in 1999, Monster Rancher 2.
Since then, the series has had a 73 episode anime that launched in 1999, and even saw a release in the US! While the games continued to release; the most recent being the smartphone game My Monster Rancher, in 2011.
As more video games begin to get remastered and rereleased, Monster Rancher's time was not promised; however, it is precisely what the fans will be getting! With new mechanics, improvements, and more information coming in Kadokawa's Weekly Famitsu magazine, Monster Rancher 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Smartphones!

The game tasks players with raising a variety of monsters to fight in tournaments, with the game deciding how to raise the monster, which then determines how the monsters fight. A notable feature of many games in the series is the ability to generate a random monster dependent upon discs that the player provides for the game to read.
