Netflix is inviting gamers to step into the worlds of some of its most popular shows. This week, the streaming giant launched Nextworld in Roblox.
The in-game universe allows Roblox players to explore movies and shows in 3D interactive spaces.
Nextworld serves as the central hub in the Netflix universe, filled with characters, easter eggs and games inspired by series and films, such as Stranger Things, One Piece, and Rebel Moon.
Stranger Things: Escape from Hawkins High is one of the playable games currently available from Nextworld. The description reads:
The scariest Stranger Things experience on Roblox from Netflix. The school dance ended early because rifts opened up throughout the building - it’s up to you to call for help but be careful because every time you play has different challenges. Join three friends or go solo to distract Demogorgons (and Demodogs AND DEMOBATS) away from your escape.
There are also mini-games available which act as side quests. In Is It Cake?, you can compete to guess whether objects in the game are cake or not. Or you can put their karate skills to the test in the Cobra Kai Miyagi-Do Balancing Board mini-game.
In addition to playing these games, you can collect objects and wearables inspired by their favorite shows and movies. These collectibles can be used to decorate your very own Fan Pod, a private space where you can just hang out and chill alone with friends. By completing challenges, you can score in-game currency that can be used to expand your pod with exclusive items, including free limited User-Generated Content (UGC) like a Demogorgon Plushie Head or a One Piece Flag.
Nextworld isn't just a place to play games. Netflix is also using it as a platform to extend its reach. On the Streamship -- your home base within Nextworld -- you'll be able to attend events like premieres and viewing parties. The Tudum Theater will also provide daily content updates.
Nextworld will continue to be updated on a regular basis with the first in-game event arriving next week. The limited-time Jurassic World: Chaos Theory event will kick off on May 17th. The event is based on the upcoming animated series, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory -- a direct sequel to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which releases on May 24.
Nextworld is currently available in early access, which simply means it's still a work in progress. You can access it on all consoles that support Roblox, mobile, and PC/Mac
