The first image from Playdead's next game features a lonely cosmonaut who's traversing a cold planetary surface. It's hard to not compare that image to the wonderful Journey, and knowing the developer's style, it's understandable to anticipate another dark, mesmerizing adventure.
In a recent interview with Danish website DR, Playdead founder Arnt Jensen revealed that this untitled game will be way bigger in scope and more ambitious than their previous titles. It's a third-person open-world project with a vast, snowy area to explore. According to Jensen, Playdead has grown tired of making 2D games and their limitations and really enjoys the process of designing a bigger world.
Jensen described it as a sci-fi adventure that will feature many melancholic motives, in the same vein as Limbo and Inside. The developer still hasn't confirmed if it's a current or next gen title, as the game's title is a secret for now. Playdead’s last game, Inside picked up four awards at the BAFTA 2017 awards, including artistic achievement, game design, narrative, and original property.
