Embark Studios has confirmed that the upcoming fifth Expedition in ARC Raiders will be the final one for a significant period. After that window closes, the feature will be paused until early 2027 while the team reworks core parts of the system in response to ongoing community feedback.
The fifth Expedition is scheduled to open on September 8 and run through September 29. Players will have three weeks to prepare their Caravan and register for departure. Unlike some previous cycles, there will be no separate last-call period. Participation remains completely optional. Those who choose to depart will reset their Raider’s level and clear their stash in exchange for permanent upgrades, additional skill points, expanded stash space, and other rewards. Completing all five Expeditions unlocks the Zenith Outfit. Any consecutive buffs already earned will carry over during the pause, and incomplete Caravans will convert into equivalent Ermal Vouchers so progress is not lost.
Expeditions have been one of the more debated features in ARC Raiders since launch. In extraction shooters, voluntary progression resets are a common way to give dedicated players a reason to rebuild and chase long-term goals. Many in the ARC Raiders community have argued that the current version does not strike the right balance. Common complaints include the relatively short departure windows, the perceived value of the rewards relative to the cost of starting over, and limited accessibility for newer or less active players who struggle to prepare in time.
Embark addressed those points directly in its latest blog post. The studio said it has reviewed the feedback carefully and determined that some of the issues require more than incremental adjustments. "They call for bigger changes," the team wrote. To make those changes properly, Expeditions will be taken offline after the fifth cycle and are expected to return in early 2027 with meaningful improvements aimed at the biggest pain points. More details on the planned revisions are scheduled to arrive in September.
The decision leaves a multi-month gap without the wipe-and-reward loop that some high-engagement players rely on. How Embark plans to keep that segment of the audience motivated during the pause will be an important question. The next major content drop, Frozen Trail, is set for October 8 and will need to carry a significant share of the ongoing engagement load.
For players who have been waiting for a better version of Expeditions, the long-term outlook is more positive. Embark is acknowledging that the current design falls short and is willing to step back rather than continue iterating in small steps. For those who never found the feature appealing, the pause simply removes a system they largely ignored.
The fifth Expedition still offers one final chance to participate under the existing rules. After September 29, the feature will go quiet while the team focuses on a more substantial redesign. Whether the 2027 version successfully addresses the reward structure, timing, and accessibility concerns will determine how central Expeditions remain to the long-term identity of ARC Raiders.
