Helldivers 2 Devoid of Liberty Update Adds Horrifying Illuminate Enemies And Warhammer 40K Warbond

The Hell Divers 2 Devoid of Liberty update brings new Illuminate enemies, Void missions, SEAF allies, a level cap increase to 300, and the Castellan’s Creed Warhammer 40K Legendary Warbond.

Arrowhead Game Studios has released the Devoid of Liberty update for Helldivers 2, a sizable content drop that puts the Illuminate faction at the center of the current Galactic War while finally delivering the long-requested Warhammer 40,000 crossover Warbond. Check out the video for the new update:

The update frames a new stage of the conflict around the Void, a strange region of space that High Command wants scouted before any larger push. Players are being sent to Void-touched planets with fresh primary and secondary objectives. These include destroying Illuminate spires and gates, infiltrating structures for data, eliminating Void mutations, and extracting materials. The missions expand the Illuminate front beyond previous encounter types and give the faction a more distinct operational identity on the galactic map.

Two new Illuminate enemy types arrive with the patch. The Wretch is a fast, aggressive unit assembled from the remains of other creatures. It can dodge incoming fire and becomes especially dangerous in groups, using speed and numbers to pressure squads. The Crusher is the opposite problem: a heavy, durable enemy that soaks damage and can regenerate if players stop focusing it. When it closes the distance, it delivers a powerful crushing attack that forces teams to decide between sustained damage and repositioning. Together the two enemies change the rhythm of Illuminate missions, adding both swarm pressure and high-health priority targets. I think this funny TikTok video sums up the feeling of meeting the new enemies:

Super Earth Armed Forces units now appear on certain missions as allied NPCs. These SEAF squads show up with defined roles such as leader or medic and will push toward objectives alongside players. Helldivers can interact with them using emotes, giving the battlefield a bit more life and occasional extra firepower. Their presence is marked on the galactic map so players know when to expect the support.

The long-awaited level cap increase is also live. The new ceiling is 300. Players who had already reached the previous limit continued earning experience in the background, so many will see an immediate rank jump when they log in after the update. Arrowhead has added new titles tied to the higher levels, giving veterans fresh progression goals beyond the old cap.

The centerpiece cosmetic and gear drop is the new Legendary Warbond, Castellan’s Creed, a full Warhammer 40,000 collaboration. The Warbond includes two armor sets, a Hot-Shot Marksman Rifle as a primary weapon, a Bolt Pistol secondary, the Meltagun as a support weapon, and Meltamine throwables. Additional unlocks cover vehicle camo, the True Grit armor passive, banners, a title, and two different capes. The collection leans into the grim, heavy aesthetic of the 40K universe while remaining functional inside Helldivers 2’s loadout system.

Castellan’s Creed continues Arrowhead’s approach of using Legendary Warbonds for higher-profile crossovers and more elaborate reward tracks. The inclusion of both weapons and armor gives players immediate loadout options rather than purely cosmetic items, while the extra banners and capes supply the expected flair for those who want to show off the collaboration.

Devoid of Liberty arrives after months of groundwork. Earlier in the year Arrowhead outlined plans to improve communication, replace the old Major Orders structure with clearer Galactic War Campaigns, and introduce new systems such as Planet Warfronts. This update delivers a concentrated Illuminate-focused campaign slice, meaningful enemy variety, allied NPC support, and a major progression milestone in the level cap increase, all alongside the 40K Warbond.

For players who have stayed with Helldivers 2 through its various balance passes and content drops, the patch offers several reasons to return to the front. The new Void missions change how Illuminate planets play. The Wretch and Crusher demand different answers than earlier enemy compositions. SEAF allies add a small but noticeable shift in mission flow. The climb to level 300 gives long-term players a renewed sense of progression. And the Castellan’s Creed Warbond supplies a fresh set of weapons and armor with a distinct visual identity.

The update does not overhaul the core loop, but it adds enough new pieces to make the current phase of the Galactic War feel distinct. Illuminate space is more dangerous and more varied. The level ceiling has moved. And for the first time, Helldivers can drop into battle wearing the colors and carrying the weapons of a Warhammer 40,000-inspired loadout. Devoid of Liberty keeps the game moving forward while delivering one of its most requested crossover collaborations. Perhaps the next crossover should be Dead Space?
