PILLARS OF ETERNITY II: DEADFIRE Seemingly Flopped As Microsoft May Announce Obsidian Acquisition Today

Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire was another attempt to recreate the magic of Planescape: Torment and Baldur’s Gate, as the sequel gives your heroes a chance to survive in deep water while exploring the colorful Deadfire Archipelago. Deadfire silll features character classes, based on the Dungeons & Dragons scheme, but the action is set in a more eye-pleasing environment.

According to Dylan Holmes, who claims that he invested $1000 in getting the sequel made, he received the first dividends on Wednesday - $192.67. In his recent tweets, Holmes said that "the "breakeven" for investors was about 580,000 sales at $50. This tells us they sold about 110,000. RPGs of this sort do have long tails, but at this juncture there is no way investors are recouping the investment."

The fact that Obsidian may be facing some major problems following Deadfire's underperformance, suggests that the financial security of Microsoft may be very attractive and needed right now. Rare has added more fuel to the speculation that Microsoft will official announce the acquisition of Obsidian today at X018 (that starts in about three hours), as the Sea of Thieves studio posted two day ago a tweet (that has been delated) announcing that two new "obsidian" items are coming to the game.
