Epic Games has announced a new limited-time event in Rocket League that will see some of the most powerful characters from X-Men blast into the arena.
The upcoming X-Men '97 limited-time vent begins on April 23 and will feature specially-themed challenges that reward players with X-Men-themed decals, boosts, wheels, and more. The event is based on Marvel's recent animated series X-Men '97, a sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series, which debuted on Disney+ last month.
During the event, players can complete Challenges to unlock Toppers, Player Banners, and other items inspired by the animated series. Items based on beloved characters like Cyclops, Wolverine, and Storm are also available for purchase in the Item Shop.
During there event, there will be a total of 12 X-Men Challenges, each offering a different reward. The iconic Blackbird is one of three unlockable Toppers, alongside the Cerebro and Sentinel Head.
Players will be able to show their allegiance by sporting Player Banners for X-Men, Wolverine, or Magneto. There are also X-Men Wheels available.
Other themed cosmetics include the Gambit Decal, Jubilee's Pyrotechnic Energy Boost, and the Marvel Crackle Trail.
Unlocking these cosmetics will require you to perform and complete specific challenges. One such challenge is simply playing 20 Online Matches, which will earn you a Golden X-Crate. Inside, you'll unlock items from the Champions, Vindicator, or Velocity series. This challenge can be completed up to five times, meaning you'll be able to unlock up to five X-Crates. There's also an unlimited Win 10 Online Matches Challenge, which rewards 20,000 XP each time.
In the item shop, players will find even more X-Men-inspired Decals and cosmetics. Cyclops has two unique items available: the Cyclops fennec Decal, which replicates Scott Summer's classic blue and yellow costume, and the Cyclops' Optic Blast Boost, a trail behind your car that looks like his red laser beam.
There's also the Jean Grey Dominus Decale, which features animated flames showing the pyrokinetic power of the cosmic entity that used to control Jean’s mind. Other items include the Storm Breakout Decal, the Jubilee Octane Decal, the Wolverine Octane, and the Wolverine Slash Goal Explosion.

The Rocket League | X-Men '97 event runs from April 23 to May 7. Rocket League is a free-to-play, vehicular soccer game available on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Given how Rocket League is owned by Epic Games, the same company that owns Fortnite, it's possible that we could see some sort of X-Men '97 event featured in the battle royale game at some point too.
