Freya Allan (The War Of The Worlds, Into The Badlands) and Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust, The ABC Murders) will play Ciri and Yennefer respectively in Netflix's adaptation of Andrzedj Sapkowski's series of highly acclaimed fantasy novels. This casting announcement comes a few weeks after Henry Cavill got the lead role of Geralt of Rivia.
The white-haired Ciri is a young princess of Cintra, one of the many Kingdoms on the Continent. The flame-haired Yennefer, on the other hand, is a sorceress and Geralt's main love interest.
Other members of the cast include Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Queen Calanthe; Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as her husband the knight Eist; Adam Levy (Snatch, Knightfall) as the druid Mousesack; MyAnna Buring as the head of the magical academy at Aretuza, Tissaia; Mimi Ndiweni and Therica Wilson-Read as novice sorcerers; and Millie Brady as the outcast princess Renfri.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich ( Daredevil, The Defenders) will run the show and co-executive produce with Alik Sakharov (Game of Thrones, House of Cards).
While the casting of Henry Cavill was met with universal approval, Hissrich encountered toxic backlash when fans learnt of her intention to cast minority actors for the role of Ciri. Time will tell how Witcher fans will react to today's casting announcement.
