Following the success of the original
Surge, the hardcore action-RPG released almost two years ago for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13 are seemingly ready to reveal new details on the upcoming sequel. While it's still unclear when the highly anticipated
Souls-like title actually hits stores, the publisher has recently confirmed that it's still on track for a 2019 release.
According to Focus Home, the next game from the
Lords of the Fallen studio will be released in "
a few months." After the launch, the development team at Deck 13 will start working on a completely new IP.
Unlike the original,
The Surge 2 is a much more open-word project, as the title will allow you to explore a city that is unfortunately dealing with the crisis brought on by the army of mutated nanobots – a concept that's not really a huge novelty (
Crisis 3 also tackled a similar subject), but there's hope that the developer will keep what made the first game so special while slightly modernizing the old formula.
With E3 2019 starting in less than two months, we definitely will see some new footage from
The Surge 2 at the big show, so be sure to learn more about the sequel in its announcement trailer down below:
The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula. The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.
The Surge 2 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
