Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Elden Ring has officially sold over 30 million copies worldwide, solidifying its position as one of the most successful video games of the modern era.

The announcement came via the game's official X account (formerly Twitter) today, marking another major milestone for FromSoftware and director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Check out the post down below:

Elden Ring's Meteoric Rise

Elden Ring first launched in February 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It quickly took the gaming world by storm, selling over 12 million copies in just its first month. By April 2022, it had even surpassed Call of Duty: Vanguard as the best-selling game in the U.S. for the previous 12 months.

Critics and fans alike praised Elden Ring’s expansive open world, deep lore crafted with the help of George R.R. Martin, and its signature challenging combat. The game went on to sweep major awards, winning Game of the Year honors at:

  • The Game Awards
  • The DICE Awards
  • The Golden Joystick Awards

In addition, Elden Ring also earned Hidetaka Miyazaki a Nebula Award for Best Game Writing, recognizing the game's exceptional narrative work.

The Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion and Beyond

In June 2024, FromSoftware released the highly anticipated DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, across all platforms. The DLC expansion not only deepened the lore of the Lands Between but also earned multiple nominations at The Game Awards 2024, including:

  • Game of the Year
  • Best Game Direction
  • Best Art Direction
  • Best Score and Music
  • Best RPG

Shadow of the Erdtree proved that the Elden Ring universe has much more to offer players who crave tough battles and intricate world-building.

What's Next: Elden Ring: Nightreign Launches May 30

Bandai Namco isn’t stopping with Elden Ring’s ongoing success. The company is set to release Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new standalone Elden Ring game, on May 30th, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

While details about Nightreign are still under wraps, the excitement surrounding the title suggests it could help the franchise break even more sales records.

Elden Ring's Legacy Continues

With 30 million copies sold and a highly anticipated new entry just weeks away, Elden Ring has solidified itself not just as a one-off success, but as one of gaming’s most legendary franchises. FromSoftware’s innovation, Bandai Namco’s support, and the passion of millions of players worldwide continue to fuel the Lands Between and soon, the dark new world of Nightreign.
