Acting as a sequel to the mystery game, Root Letter, Root Film is a new title created by Hifumi Kono, who wrote the mystery for the first game. The new title is being developed by Kadokawa Games and PQube and was initially released in Japan on July 30th.
The story of the game centers around a group of people trying to resurrect a show that was canceled for an unknown reason. In their efforts to make their dreams a reality, things take a horrific turn after someone its murdered. Now, the cast and crew must try to solve the murder; however, things aren't always as they seem.
While an announcement had been made some time ago that the game would be making a western release on the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, there had been no official release date set. What made things worse is that the COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally slowed the process down on a lot of plans for these companies.
However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel after both PQube and Kadokawa Games confirmed that the title would indeed be releasing in the west during the first quarter of 2021! While there may still be a wait, at least there is a release window that is confirmed! We would love to hear your thoughts on the news in the comments below!
Root Film will release in the first quarter of 2021.
