Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure game developed by FromSoftware that released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC back in March.

Taking place in a fantastical version of Sengoku Japan, the game is one of stealth gameplay, exploration and combat. Featuring an emphasis on boss battles and being paritcularly difficult, Sekiro drew comparisons with the Dark Souls games — which is understandably given director Hidetaka Miyazaki's prior work.

The Game Awards recently concluded and announced that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is 2019's Game of the Year. It was up against the likes of Control, Death Stranding, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — the latter two of which supposedly had an easy victory on their hands, according to many — but managed to come out on top with the win.
