Back in 2015, Deep Silver and YS Net began a kickstarter campaign that would help them develop a new title in the classic
Shenmue series by Sega. The last title in the series,
Shenmue II, was released in 2001 for the Sega Dreamcast, going on hiatus ever since.
It wasn't until August of 2017 that we got our very first look at Deep Silver and YS Net's highly anticipated
Shenmue III; and truth be told, the teaser looked like it still needed some tweaks. The fact that the game was finally being made, however, was already great news for fans of the cult classic series.
Shenmue III got a brand new trailer back in August of this year, and the game was already beginning to look a lot better—which obviously resonated well with long-time fans who have been clamouring for a sequel to
Shenmue II for over 15 years—proving that the people over at Deep Silver understand the series.
Today, we have some great news for
Shenmue fans, as the developers have announced that
Shenmue III has ended its crowdfunding campaign and managed to raise an impressive $7,179,510 USD thanks to the help of 81,087 backers, as well as surpassing the original Kickstarter campaign; which had set a goal of 2$ million.
Everything seems to be going well for
Shenmue III in terms of its development, since the game is expected to be released for the PlayStation 4 and PC next year on the
27th of August, and seeing how much the crowdfunding campaign has managed to raise is very reassuring news that would definitely make fans of the
Shenmue series happy.
Shenmue III sees the continuation of the epic story-driven saga. The player controls teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki as he investigates his father's murder.
Shenmue III will be available for the PlayStation 4 and PC on the 27th of August in 2019.
