Code Vein is the next Dark Souls-inspired RPG title from Bandai Namco. While they still haven't told us exactly what the game is about, we have been able to gather some information and that is that it's pretty much inspired by
Bloodborne and
Dark Souls. You start with a blank slate character, and are left alone for you to explore and unveil the story as you move forward.
In
Code Vein you are also able to take a party member with you and that makes fights a bit less frustrating as the other character will be helping you against those difficult opponents you may encounter, which in turn also help you level up and get better weapons and useful items to help you on your journey.
Bandai Namco have recently released a video with some reactions from the people that got the chance to play
Code Vein at the PAX East event a couple of weeks ago and they have actually gave us more hints than Bandai Namco themselves have. Players were praising the game for its graphics and anime-inspired visuals, fast-paced combat, the game's level of challenge, and especially the new gameplay mechanics like the AI partner.
All in all, it really does look like
Code Vein is turning into something special, mainly because of all the inspiration it draws from other games that have defined the "Souls" genre and it even seems to be improving on some of the gameplay mechanics, which is always a welcome change.
In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood.
Code Vein still hasn't been given an official release date but is expected to come out this 2018.
