Looking to capitalize on the popularity of the newly released
Apex Legends, Twitch has already announced its first competitive event for the battle royale game.
The
Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge will be a two-part competition featuring 48 Twitch streamers competing for $200,000 in prizes. The event will be split into two days - February 12 and February 19 - and will feature 16 three-player squads competing to earn the most points. Five points will be awarded for each match victory with an additional one point awarded for each kill.
Among the streamers participating will be DrDisrespect, Sacriel, TSM Myth, Disguised Toast, RealKraftyy, and shroud. You can tune into the event over
on Twitch or directly through the channel of any streamer competing in the event.
Apex Legends was revealed on Monday, launching the very same day. The free-to-play battle royale game, which has been described as a mix between
Titanfall, Overwatch, and
Call of Duty Blackout has been met with enthusiasm and praise. Respawn Entertainment recently announced that the game had hit over 10 million players in just 72 hours and had eclipsed the one million concurrent players mark.
