The Uncharted movie has been a long time coming, but with Joe Carnahan's screenplay now in Sony's hands and Shawn Levy on board to direct, we're closer than ever to seeing it become a reality. Talking in a new interview with io9, the filmmaker actually revealed that he already has a few leading men in mind, and while he wouldn't reveal any names (despite being inundated with them on Twitter), Levy noted that he's, "started some very secret, low-grade conversations and explorations of actors."
As for his approach to the story, he added that, "it's been a long ass time since we've had a great, and contemporary, treasure hunter movie," and promises that the Uncharted movie will fill that void by offering a "combination of the hunt, the action, the relationships and the characters," making it "really unique and super juicy to bring to the big screen." That sounds like the perfect approach, though many fans of the critically acclaimed Naughty Dog remain understandably sceptical.
After all, video games movies don't have the best reputation, and can this take ever top what the PlayStation series has delivered? In terms of action at least, Levy certainly hopes so. "Those action scenes blow my mind in the game and if I don’t give that experience to audiences with the movie I didn’t do my job. And I intend to do my job." Are you looking forward to this take on Uncharted?
