Fans have been waiting for a sequel to Half-Life 2 since it released all of fifteen years ago. The series has remained dead since then. However, the studio behind the recently released World War Z game recently revealed that they approached Valve to remaster Half-Life 2.

The CEO of Saber Interactive, Matthew Karch, is quite fond of the Half-Life series. This led him to ask Valve whether they were allowed to remake the second instalment. Sadly, they were turned down - as he recently explained to GameWatcher.

"After we did Halo Anniversary and Halo 2 Anniversary, as part of the Master Chief Collection, I reached out to Gabe Newell personally, because I knew him from a past life, and I said I want to remake Half-Life 2. That's all I want to do. I won't charge you anything for it. I'll do it for rev-share and doesn't even need to be a big rev-share. I just really want to do because I love that game so much."

Interestingly, Valve's response was apparently that if they were going to remake Half-Life 2, it would be done iternally. This is contradictory to their previous decision to allow fans to remake the first instalment. Naturally, fans have grasped onto this thin strand of hope as evidence that Valve isn't done with the series after all.

World War Z is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
