Astral Chain — Platinum Games' new intellectual property, and upcoming hack and slash — was announced in February of this year, and immediately got people talking about it. The game was revealed to be directed by Takahisa Taura, who was the designer in Square Enix's NieR: Automata, and was being overseen by Bayonetta, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamiya.

During this year's E3, Platinum Games delighted us with a brand-new gameplay trailer for Astral Chain, showing off some of its hack and slash gameplay, as well as revealing a little bit of information in regards to the game's main plot.

As Nintendo and Platinum Games wrap up this year's E3, they've released a new video featuring Director Takahisa Taura — who discloses three things that some people may still not know about Astral Chain; three more reasons to get players excited to pick this one up when it releases later in August.

The first thing Taura gets out of the way is Astral Chain's gameplay, which he describes as the middle point between Platinum Games' Bayonetta series, and Square Enix's acclaimed NieR: Automata. The second thing he tells us is that players can play as two characters to fight one or multiple enemies at any given time; something he calls "Dual Action".

Finally, the third thing he tells us about the game is that Astral Chain will feature...cats, and players will have fun looking around for them in the most unexpected places. While one would think he's joking, cats do actually appear in the game, so keep an eye out for them out in the field.

Astral Chain is a new action game from PlatinumGames, the creators of the Bayonetta™ series. As part of a police special forces unit in a multi-cultural futuristic city, players work together with a humanoid special weapon, Legion, in a synergetic action system of battle and exploration.

Astral Chain will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 30th of August.
