DETECTIVE PIKACHU: The Titular Sleuth Solves The Case Of A Missing Flan In New Anime Short

While Detective Pikachu isn't the most popular video game in the pocket monster franchise, 2016 changed things for the title when a movie hit the big screen starring none other than Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Free Guy) as the titular electric mouse sleuth. Now Nintendo can expect some real sales from the gaames and they have finally released a sequel on Switch in the form of Detective Pikachu 2.

To get fans excited for the release there has now been an anime short released, building hype for the title. Detective Pikachu & the Case of the Missing Flan may have no signs of Reynolds, but the short is still fun for fans to experience, especially in preparation for the new game.

Fairly self-explanatory, the new short sees the titular detective working with Tim to discover who has stolen his partner's flan from the fridge. While the real culprit is ultimately revealed to be another pocket monster altogether, the adorable and lovable Munchlax takes the initial blame for eating the food due to its penchant for, well, eating food.

Fans of the game series itelf will likely love this installment but those who specifically know this character from the live-action big screen adventure will find the Deadpool actor's absense leaving something to be desired. Still, it's a fun outing for fans of these characters in all generations should players be looking for another case to solve. Regardless of the voice acting, the game will likely sell better than its predecessor due to name recognition alone - plus, people who played the first title likely won't be expecting Reynolds to be involved anyways.

It has been surprising that the feature film, which also starred Justice Smith and Hailee Steinfeld alongside Reynolds back in 2016 has yet to receive the green light for a sequel. It is possible that the team behind the game wanted to wait for the sequel's release to announce another film, and if that is the case then given Detective Pikachu 2's availability on Nintendo Switch, it is possible that an announcement for another big screen outing is just around the corner. With Deadpool 3 shaping up to be Marvel's next No Way Home, the studio would be remiss to not jump on the opportunity to capitalize on that success. After all, the first film came out the same year as the first Deadpool did so it is reasonable to expect another similar timeline in releases.

What do you think of the voice of Pikachu in this short? Regardless of your thoughts on the film, be sure to tune into this adorable adventure and let us know your take in the usual spot.

Detective Pikachu just wants to film his morning routine, but Tim has a bigger problem: his flan has disappeared from the fridge! It’s definitely a mysterious case, but if anyone can solve it, this dynamic duo can in the animated short “Detective Pikachu & the Mystery of the Missing Flan”!

Detective Pikachu 2 is now available on Nintendo Switch.
