What was perhaps one of the most surprising announcements that Nintendo made during the special Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct presentation that was livestreamed early in September, is that they are bringing back the classic Game & Watch handheld system for a limited time.
This is no ordinary Game & Watch, as it will be including some new features like a directional pad and a full version of the original Super Mario Bros., as well as a proper LCD screen that displays colours this time around, in order to give players a more authentic experience when playing the classic 2D platformer.
Like many of the announcements made during the presentation, for some odd reason we still don't know, the special Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will only be available for players to purchase for a limited time, which is particularly concerning if we keep in mind that scalpers are already eyeing the console like there's no tomorrow.
The announcement revealed that Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will be available on Wednesday the 11th of November, but it didn't reveal when the console would stop being sold. Thanks to the keen-eyed people over at Nintendo Everything, however, we now have an answer. Sort of.
This information actually comes from Nintendo's official website for the product, where it is revealed that the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. handheld system will continue to be shipped through roughly Wednesday the 31st of March in 2021; after that, it is expected to be available until supplies last.
While this won't necessarily prevent scalpers from getting their filthy, and scummy hands on the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., it does give fans quite a bit of time to purchase one before Nintendo stops production. Pre-orders still don't seem to be open just yet, though, but we'll try to keep you posted.
