HYRULE WARRIORS: AGE OF CALAMITY Is The Second Best-Reviewed Game Of The Year, According To Famitsu

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is only a bit over a week away from finally hitting store shelves worldwide, as it will become available for the Nintendo Switch on Friday the 20th of November, and will give an action-packed take on The Legend of Zelda series.

Now that the game is just around the corner, the first review has already landed, and it points to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity being the second best-reviewed game of the year on the Nintendo Switch, which is actually quite the statement, especially for a game that has such big shoes to fill.

For those unaware, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a hack and slash game that serves as a prequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, although this game, as previously mentioned, is not a game that will focus on exploration at all.

As mentioned above, this first review actually comes from Japanese publication Famitsu, in which Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was give four 9/10 for a final score of 36/40. This means that all four of Famitsu's reviewers gave the game a near-perfect score.

Here's where things get even more interesting, as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity getting a 36/40 positions it, according to Famitsu's ratings, in second place right after Nintendo's also critically acclaimed Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which isn't only one of the best-reviewed games of the year, but also one of the best-selling titles of the year.

According to the translation provided by Video Games Chronicle, Famitsu describes Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity as a "highly satisfying as a spin-off of Breath of the Wild," which again is quite the statement considering just how well-received The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is.

Of course, this is only Famitsu's opinion on the game, and more reviews will start rolling out this week, so it will be interesting to see if other media outlets also agree with the score that the Japanese publication has given Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

Join the struggle that brought Hyrule to its knees. Learn more about Zelda, the four Champions, the King of Hyrule, and more through dramatic cutscenes as they try to save the kingdom from Calamity. Play the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity game to see firsthand what happened 100 years ago.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on Friday the 20th of November.
