One of the great surprises Nintendo revealed when
Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U released in 2014 was that they were bringing back the GameCube controller for players to experience the game like they did back in the GameCube era with
Super Smash Bros. Melee.
For players to connect these controllers, an adapter was required given that the GameCube controller was not wireless—which aimed to replicate the feel of the original controllers, as well as giving players the choice to use their old GameCube controllers.
Fast forward 4 years and Nintendo is offering players the chance to play the new
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with their GameCube controllers, once again, as they officially announced that not only the game is supporting these controllers, but they will also begin selling them again. For players to play games using their GameCube controllers, they will also require an adapter to be connected onto their Switch.
Today, pre-orders have become available on Amazon and the GameCube controllers will retail for $29.99USD, and the GameCube Controller Adapter will sell for $19.99USD. The new controllers will be the exact same controllers sold back when the GameCube was still in store shelves so it isn't a wireless controller and the adapter is mandatory the same way it was when it came out for the Wii U.
This is great news for fans of the series, especially
Super Smash Bros. Melee fans who can't get enough of those glorious controllers that seem to have been made exclusively for the game and that game alone. Both, the
GameCube Controller and
GameCube Controller Adapter will be released on the
31st of December this year, only a couple of weeks after
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is released on the
7th of December.
Introducing the newest and most expansive Super Smash Bros. ever! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives December 7, 2018.
