Nintendo's
Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS introduced us to the amiibo, which are figurines that can share information with the consoles by just tapping the figurine to the near-field communication reader.
This allowed, for instance, a Mario amiibo to add in-game extras to a specific, and compatible game. While the use of amiibo is not required to fully enjoy a game, some say it can enhance the experience, while others simply like collecting the figurines.
Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS introduced Nintendo to the concept and the company released amiibo for every single one of the characters in the Smash Bros. roster at the time. Needless to say, they became a huge sensation almost immediately, especially for collectors.
Now, Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing
Smash Bros. amiibo for the newcomers—in this case,
Metroid series' Ridley,
Star Fox's Wolf O'Donnell, and
Splatoon's Inklings. These brand new amiibo will be available on the
7th of December, the very same day
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate becomes available and will retail for $15.99 USD each. Nintendo have also confirmed that they will be bringing back
Super Smash Bros. amiibo from the Wii U and 3DS version of the game and those will retail for $12.99.
This is great news for fans of the series who didn't get to purchase these amiibo when they first came out, especially because of scalpers who would buy these amiibo and re-sell them at a higher price. Hopefully Nintendo is able to meet demands this time or they'll have another scalping fiasco on their hands pretty soon.
Introducing the newest and most expansive Super Smash Bros. ever! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives December 7, 2018.
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 7th of December.
