According to developer Nintendo, the crossover fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has become the company's fastest selling console game ever. The game has sold faster than any other console game the company has developed.
The Nintendo Switch title has sold over 12.08 million units since its launch on December 7, 2018. The company's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, states that the game has been "the fastest start for any title on any Nintendo home console ever."
Ultimate became Japan's best-selling game in the saga in just four weeks after launch. "This latest Super Smash Bros title is like a giant gathering of everyone who has ever had access to Nintendo games at any stage in their lives during the 35 years that Nintendo has been continuously producing video games. As a result, we're seeing a change in consumer demographics as people across a wide variety of age groups are all playing Super Smash Bros."
The developer also shared the sell numbers for other titles like Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The graphs can clearly show how the number of players and fans are rising throughout the months.
The hybrid console Nintendo Switch has sold over 32.27 million units by the end of the calendar Q4. Ultimate has been a massive hit for Nintendo, prompting many fans to buy the Switch and increasing sell numbers for the console as well.
