If there
actually was a professional Smash Bros. e-League that was supported by Nintendo, Chris "WaDi" Boston would be one of (if not the) premiere players on the scene. Ahead of the 2G Gaming (2GG) Championship Smash Bros. match this past weekend, WaDi went for a different kind of victory.
Ahead of his championship match against Tweek, WaDi dropped down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Cinnpie. "I never would have thought that going to tournaments would bring me the love of my life. But here we are – standing in an enhanced version of where we first met. I’m proud to call you my partner and my best friend. You’re my everything, baby, please make me the happiest man in the world.”
She said yes and WaDi went on to beat Tweek 3-2, but was ultimately bounced from the tournament due to it's Round Robin structure.
He finished in a 5-way tie for 11th place, taking home $350. The winner of the tournament, MkLeo, took home $20,000 USD for his efforts.
The 2GG Championship is a national Super Smash Bros. Wii U tournament where entrants are selected based on their performance in previous tournaments, with one slot open for a non-qualifier to play his/her way in. It is the last tournament of the 2GG Championship Series. 2GGaming and eSports Arena pay for travel and lodging and award cash prizes totaling $50,000 USD.
