Nintendo chose not to reveal pricing details for the Nintendo Switch 2 during its Direct presentation this morning, but a follow-up email revealed all fo the launch plans we've been eagerly awaiting.

For starters, the Nintendo Switch 2 will release on June 5th of this year. It will cost $449.99, a significant increase from what the original Switch launched at, but not totally unexpected given the new features, improved hardware internals, and larger overall size of the system.

As a quick recap, the Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a large 7.9-inch built-in LCD screen that display in full HD at 1080p. The newly designed Joy-Con 2 controllers now magnetically attach to the Switch 2 console. Furthermore, they can be operated like a mouse by sliding it on a surface like a table or on a pair of pants. The system also comes with 256GB internal storage, eight times more than the capacity of the current Switch. You can expand upont his with microSD Express cards, which have faster data reading speeds than previous microSD models.

The Switch 2 can once again be played docked through your television or on the go in handheld. When connected to the Switch 2 dock, it can output video at up to 4K resolution and play games at up to 120 fps, via compatible games and TVs. The portable ersion is also said to deliver "vivid, detailed game experiences, as well as smooth graphics."

One of the big new features is the implementation of GameChat. This is basically the equivalent of party chat on Xbox or PlayStation. You know that mysterious C button on the system that everyone has been wondering about? This is the answer.

The C button on the right Joy-Con launches GameChat, allowing for a virtual party that makes you feel like you're all playing int he same room. The Switch 2 console has a built-in microphone that can pick up your voice from across the room, while simultaneously muting surrounding noise. GameChat supports up to 12 people, and allows you to screen share. The system also supports camera connection via USB-C, allowing you to video chat. It was revealed that htis video chat can also be implemented in certain games, like Mario Party.

Here's everything that comes with the Switch 2 console when you purchase it:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 console
  • Joy-Con 2 controllers (L+R)
  • Joy-Con 2 Grip
  • Joy-Con 2 Straps
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
  • Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter
  • USB-C Charging Cable

The Switch 2 is also launching with a bundle option. The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle will retail for $499.99 and includes a download code for Mario Kart World. Assuming Mario Kart World is priced standalone at $59.99, this bundle offers a $10 savings.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open up in North America at participating retailers beginning April 9, 2025. The new console launches on June 5th.
