Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania game by independent Australian studio Team Cherry. The game was initially relesed for Microsoft Windows in February of 2017, eventually being ported to macOS and Linux in April of the same year.
During this year's Nintendo E3 Direct,
Hollow Knight was given its first trailer for the Nintendo Switch—although the game had been announced all the way back in January of 2017 but was delayed.
Hollow Knight for the Nintendo Switch was made available on that very same day, and it also includes all of the free DLC packs from previous version such as the new items, all of the game's characters, bosses and Hollow Knight's final free content that includes Gods and Glory—due later this year.
Nintendo of America Chief Operating Officer, Reggie Fils-Aimé, referred to
Hollow Knight—during an interview with
Waypoint, via
IGN—and simply said that "
Hollow Knight on Switch is doing exceptionally well". Team Cherry has now confirmed that the game has managed to sell an impressive 250,000 copies since the game's launch on the Switch a couple of weeks ago.
It is always nice seeing that great indie titles such as
Hollow Knight are getting the proper reception they deserve on the Nintendo Switch, proving that the console is very welcoming to independent developers—especially now that a lot of indie games are setting the bar really high and players just can't seem to get enough of them.
