Let's just take a minute and reflect about what just happened. Mario is playing against the number one tennis player in the world,
Rafael Nadal, in the latest trailer for
Mario Tennis Aces for the Nintendo Switch. Talk about a great marketing campaign by Nintendo!
Mario Tennis Aces is the newest entry in the
Mario Tennis series that started on the Nintendo 64 back in 2000. The games have always featured Nintendo characters(and Donkey Kong) playing tennis matches—each using their special abilities to win. The series had a great start, a proper sequel on the Gameboy Advance—that even featured RPG elements that were never used again—and some decent entries for the Game Cube and the Wii.
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash on the Wii U is considered the most disappointing entry in the series, and it definitely didn't help to be on one of Nintendo's most disappointing consoles ever—both suffering from the same thing: a poor marketing campaign. Enter the Nintendo Switch that knew exactly how to promote itself after Nintendo learnt their lesson with the Wii U.
Fast forward to today and we have a new
Mario Tennis game that will feature an
Adventure mode, as well as bringing back those RPG elements that hadn't been seen since the Game Boy Advance
Mario Tennis games in 2005. Not only that but the latest trailer even features Spanish professional tennis player—who's also the Number 1 player in the world—
Rafael Nadal to play against Mario.
It really is great to see that Nintendo haven't dropped the ball(I don't regret this pun) when marketing their newest console, as well as its games, and I'm pretty sure people are looking forward to
Mario Tennis Aces more than ever. I mean, come on...Rafael Nadal playing against Mario is just awesome, even when he isn't even a character in the game.
Unleash an arsenal of shots and strategies in all-out tennis battles with friends, family, and fan-favorite Mushroom Kingdom characters. Whether you play locally, online, or using simple motion controls, intense rallies await!
Mario Tennis Aces will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 22nd of June.
