Thanks to the popularity of
Fortnite just about every popular game franchise is being re-imagined as a battle royale game. From
Call of Duty's Blackout to Respawn Entertainment's
Apex Legends, everyone is trying to get a piece of that battle royale pie - even the classic puzzle game
Tetris.
In what was probably thought of as the least likely game to ever embrace battle royale, Nintendo and developer ARIKA have found a way to make it work with
Tetris 99. Available for free download today as a special offer for Nintendo Switch Online members,
Tetris 99 pits players in a large-scale, 99-player battle with the goal to be the last one left standing.
The core concept is still the same as players work to destroy blocks by creating lines. With a combination of speed, skill, and strategy (along with some well-timed Garbage Blocks that you can send to opponents), you can knock out the competition.
