Prime Video is continuing its dive into the world of video games after finding massive success with Fallout.
In that show's wake, projects based on God of War, Wolfenstein, Tomb Raider, and Mass Effect.
Now, comes a new report via Variety that Prime Video is partnering with Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment to produce a live-action Life is Strange television series.
Charlie Covell, known for The End of the F**ing World* and Kaos, will serve as showrunner.
The show will revolve around the original game's two main characters- Max Caulfield and Chloe Price. Max is a photographer who inexplicably discovers that she has the ability to rewind time, and uses these abilities, alongside Chloe, to investigate the disappearance of a fellow student within their small, seaside community.
The game was centered around player-driven choices and had a myriad of possible endings.
Life is Strange was previously set to be adapted in 2016 at Legendary Pictures, but that project never got off the ground. Amazon's announcement represents the first time that a potential Life is Strange adaptation has officially received the green light.
Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg, of Story Kitchen, provided the following, via press statement: "Story Kitchen has always believed that ‘Life is Strange’ deserved to be more than just a game—it’s a cultural touchstone. After a decade-long journey, we’re honored to be bringing this beloved story to Amazon MGM alongside our incredible partners at Square Enix, our brilliant showrunner/writer Charlie Covell, and the amazing team at LuckyChap. Together, this thoughtfully assembled dream team is ready to share Life is Strange with the world in an entirely new way!"
“It’s a huge honor to be adapting ‘Life Is Strange’ for Amazon MGM Studios,” Covell said in the same press statement. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
Stay tuned for future updates as we look forward to casting and news on a potential production start date.
