From a galaxy far, far away to the world's craziest vehicle combat tournament, Emmy winner Mark Hamill has joined the cast of Peacock's Twisted Metal series. The Star Wars alum will play Pope Charlie Kane, the leader of the Eastern Sovereignty and estranged father of Sweet Tooth, in Season 3.

“For Mark Hamill to come into this world with us is amazing. He’s someone I’ve admired for a long time — a true legend who’s influenced generations of actors," executive producer and star Anthony Mackie said. "Being able to now call him a castmate is an incredible honor, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the world of Twisted Metal."

An adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game franchise, Peacock's Twisted Metal series stars Anthony Mackie as a wisecracking courier named John Doe (Anthony Mackie) who's hired to drive a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic America splintered into walled-off city-states and lawless wasteland between them. Along the way he has to dodge savage marauders and other hazards of the open road, including a deranged, ice-cream-truck-driving clown known as Sweet Tooth, while later joined by a trigger-happy car thief named Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz). Rather than a straight, grim survival story, the show playfully blends bloody, fender-bending action with thrills and a heavy dose of humor.

The series has since expanded well past its road-trip origins. Season 2 picks up after the Season 1 finale, with John and Quiet entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man named Calypso (Anthony Carrigan), facing an onslaught of new and returning killers while John reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface.

Not much is known about Season 3, though we expect it to pick up shortly after the latest season's events. Season 2 ended with John Doe and Quiet on the run and teaming up with a rag-tag group of survivors, all vowing to take the fight to Calypso.

Peacock renewed Twisted Metal for a third season back in November of last year. The series has been a welcomed hit for streamer, with the second season having registered 993 million minutes viewed on the streaming service (as of November 2025). It was the second-highest reaching original returning scripted season for Peacock at the time of its renewal.

Twisted Metal will undergo a few staff changes for Season 3. It was previously announced that David Reed (The Boys, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Magicians, Supernatural and Battlestar Galactica) will join as showrunner. Reed will executive produce alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Jonathan Smith has ended his involvement as showrunner and executive producer.
